Green Club Activity
2023-07-10
MET Hydrogreen, the environmental club affiliated with MET Institute of Pharmacy (Diploma), organized a Nirmalya collection and composting initiative on September 30, 2023. The state of Maharashtra annually celebrates the Ganesh festival with immense enthusiasm. This year, the festival spanned from September 19th to September 28th, 2023. During this festive period, a substantial amount of natural materials such as leaves, flowers and durva grass were extensively utilized for worship.
Regrettably, the day after the festivities, these same natural offerings, collectively referred to as Nirmalya, are often indiscriminately discarded into streams, lakes and rivers, thereby contributing to water pollution. However, it is worth noting that these discarded materials can be effectively repurposed into high-quality fertilizer if managed properly.
In light of these environmental concerns, MET Hydro Green, the Green Club of MET IOP (Diploma), led by the guidance of Mrs. Dipali Khabale, the Green Club Faculty Coordinator, and Principal Dr. Suryakant Bhosale, took proactive measures to engage and inspire the youth and students. They encouraged individuals to collect Nirmalya from their homes, neighborhoods and Ganesh Pandals. The students responded enthusiastically, resulting in a significant accumulation of Nirmalya.
To address this issue, a compost pit measuring 4 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet was established in the MET Garden on the college campus. All the gathered Nirmalya was carefully deposited into the pit and covered with soil. It ensured that no plastic, glass, or metal objects were mixed with the natural materials.
This endeavor was carried out with remarkable zeal and dedication by the members of the Green Club, and a sense of fulfillment was visible on everyone\'s countenance as they collectively took a step toward preventing water pollution, conserving water resources, and maximizing the utilization of natural resources.
