MET Institute of PGDM recently wrapped up an enlightening 5-day Faculty Development Programme! From July 3rd to July 7th, 2023, participants immersed themselves in the world of BIG Data Econometrics and Machine Learning for Management Research.

The resource team featured renowned experts like Dr. Subrata Sarkar, Dean of Faculties at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development & Research, Mumbai, Dr. Jayatu Sen Chaudhury, Head of Enterprise Digital and Analytics with over 20 years of experience into data science, and Prof. Hirendra Soni, MET PGDM, Faculty member with 26 years of industry expertise.

The mission was to introduce participants to this exciting world, fostering learning, analysis, insights, and research using BIG data. With 30 engaging lectures and hands-on workshops, topics ranged from Big Data and the 3Vs to Econometrics, ML techniques (RF, KNN, GBM, XGBOOST), and even the Value at Risk of Stocks.

The program concluded on September 9th, 2023, with a valedictory and certificate distribution, leaving participants with a profound understanding of these vital topics.

In today\'s competitive world, stress is a common challenge for management professionals. But here\'s a solution: just 15 minutes of daily Pranayama and Meditation practices can make a huge difference.

During the PGDM induction program Batch 2023-25, the workshop on ‘Stress Management through breathing and Pranyama’ was conducted by Ms. Mandeep Anand, a Biology professor with 15 years of experience. She\'s not only an expert in her field but also associated with Bramhavidya, where she\'s taught over 7000 students the art of breathing. Ms. Anand guided the students about developing a positive habit for themselves along with its benefit to balance career, health & mental well-being.

As part of the Induction program for PGDM Students Batch 2023-25, Dr. Nisha Tatkar, Associate Professor, MET PGDM, led a 2-day workshop focused on ‘Effective Case Study Solving’.

The workshop was remarkably interactive, equipping students with a vital skill set that would prove invaluable throughout their MBA journey. Subsequently, students put this knowledge into practice through a variety of activities.

On 1st April 2023, MET Institute of PGDM organised a workshop for students of PGDM on the topic \'Intellectual Property Rights and IP Management For Startup\'. The session was conducted by Dr. Suvrashish Sarkar, Associate Professor, MET PGDM along with the Guest Speaker, Ms. Sangeeta Pal, Advocate, Trade Mark Attorney and IPR Practitioner.

During the lecture, Dr. Sarkar provided comprehensive information that covered the aspects of IPR. He enlightened aspiring MBAs on IP rights, the significance of having a trademark for a brand and IPR practices that are followed in India, as well as guidance on which categories of innovation can be protected.

Ms. Pal delivered a thorough explanation during the session, where the students were able to gain knowledge about various legal aspects related to trademarks and patents, including IPR rights and IP facilitation for startups. The session covered topics such as the process of filling and registering trademarks and patents for startups, the benefits that startups can receive such as cost reduction, fast-tracking of trademark applications, legal relief and penalties associated with trademarks and patents. In addition, the session also highlighted the Indian law on the commercialisation of IPR, the significant sections related to IPR, and the course of action that can be taken in case any brand copies one\'s IPR.

The interactive Q&A session led by Ms. Pal was a delightful and amazing experience for the students. Throughout the workshop, aspiring MBAs acquired extensive knowledge of the significance of IPR for startups.

On 8th April 2023, MET Institute of PGDM organised a mentoring workshop titled ‘Business Plan & Linkage Without Innovation Ambassador’. During the workshop, students were able to pitch their business plans based on the knowledge and information they acquired. Mr. B. R. Venkatesh, Independent Entrepreneurship Trainer and Mentor, along with his wife Ms. Tejaswini Venkatesh, guided the students as they presented various startup ideas in different industries.

Some of the teams presented unique business concepts, such as Eklavya\'s proposal for a luxurious boutique resort, Sukoon\'s idea for a tea outlet and another team\'s suggestion for a budget application and a necessities aggregator service tailored to consumer preferences.

Overall, the workshop was an exceptional and interactive experience, providing students with valuable insights into teamwork, idea generation, brainstorming and communication.

MET Institute of PGDM organised a workshop titled ‘Business Model Canvas’ on 5th April 2023. The workshop was coordinated and addressed by Mr. B. R. Venkatesh, Independent Entrepreneurship Trainer and Mentor and his wife, Ms. Tejasvini Venkatesh. The purpose of the workshop was to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among the students, introduce them to entrepreneurship, and provide them with financial modelling knowledge, such as projecting costs and defining business objectives.

At the beginning of the workshop, Mr. Venkatesh assigned six cards to each student, each containing a word relating to their business plan, which demonstrated to students the challenges of starting a business. The second activity was a teamwork task, where students exchanged their business ideas and came up with unique and innovative ideas.

Mr. Venkatesh also presented an example of the financial costs associated with a Chai Shop, dividing the cost into three types startup cost, fixed cost and production cost. Students gained insight into financial management as well as the importance of observation and communication skills in the success of any business.

On 3rd April 2023, MET Institute of PGDM held a workshop titled ‘Process Design and Development’ to help students understand the concepts of entrepreneurship. Mr. B. R. Venkatesh, Independent Entrepreneurship Trainer and Mentor, along with his wife Ms. Tejasvini Venkatesh, coordinated the workshop as the guest speaker.

To start the session, Mr. Venkatesh divided the students into six groups and assigned them to the first activity, which involved brainstorming and coming up with answers. This activity was designed to teach the students about communication, teamwork and public speaking. He then moved on to another activity that focused on the meaning of the word IDEA in the context of a startup and how it can be broken down into different aspects.

During the workshop, Mr. Venkatesh shared a Guru Mantra for a successful startup, \"If you focus on your startup for the first 3,000 days, it will make you successful for 45,000 days”. Ms. Tejasvini took over the coordination of the second activity, where students were given a newspaper and asked to read the headlines and look for business ideas. The students learned that even a single headline can provide them with numerous ideas.

The workshop continued with an activity that emphasized the importance of observation in generating business ideas. Students were asked to walk around their surroundings outside the classroom and come up with as many business ideas as possible. This activity helped the students to appreciate the value of teamwork and generated many unique and brilliant business ideas.

Finally, the students were given a brainstorming task to find out how many businesses were running because of them. Through this task, they learned about the importance of financial management, doing a thorough research and peer-to-peer learning in solving problems. Overall, the workshop provided the students with valuable insights into teamwork, idea generation, communication and the essential aspects of any successful business.

MET Institute of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) welcomed Mr. B. R. Venkatesh, Independent Entrepreneurship Trainer and Mentor and his wife, Ms. Tejaswini Venkatesh for a workshop on the topic ‘How to Develop an Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindset\' on 24th February 2023.

During the workshop, Mr. Venkatesh discussed several relevant issues such as unemployment in India, the significance of job security and the reasons why people often shy away from starting their businesses due to financial risks and lack of confidence. He drew a comparison between having a job and running a business, highlighting that although entrepreneurship comes with financial risk, those who succeed are often financially rewarded.

He also shared his experiences of working with disruptive startups and how they were able to succeed by working on the back end, apart from mainstream work. He showcased a few advertisements that depicted businessmen doing better than employees, with the freedom to make their own decisions.

The workshop concluded with the message that one should follow their passion, regardless of where it lies and be motivated enough to fulfill it.

On 24th February, the MET Institute of Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) organized a workshop titled \'Design Thinking, Critical Thinking and Innovations in Product Design\'.

The workshop was led by Dr. Suvrashis Sarkar, Associate Professor, MET PGDM, who demonstrated how design thinking can be applied across various domains such as Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and Marketing.

During the workshop, Dr. Sarkar emphasized the significance of products in one\'s life and showcased examples of well-designed products such as YiPPee Instant Noodles and pens. Aspiring MBAs engaged in discussions about these products and their innovative features.

The workshop concluded by highlighting the role of critical thinking in the innovation of products by various brands.

MET PGDM organised the Outbound Training Cum Study Tour to Silvasa with a focus on ‘Qualitative and Innovative Management Practices’ for students of the PGDM 2024 batch on 13th and 14th February 2023.

The Industrial Visit at Parle International was one of the major aspects of the tour. The first stop on the journey was at Kanvel Resort at Silvasa, where students participated in various outdoor and indoor activities like team war cries, icebreakers and groups, Ball games etc. Management aspirants learned coordination, team building & communication etc followed by outdoor learning activities. Altogether, the first day of the Outbound training tour was full of activities and ended with the DJ Night.

On the 2nd day, MET PGDM students had an Industrial Visit at \'Man Food International\' (Parle International) at Silvasa. Students had an opportunity to witness the making of iconic ‘Parle-G’ biscuits. Furthermore, making other Parle Products like Kaccha Mango Bite, Mango Bite, Parle Poppins, Hide & Seek, Parle Full Toss etc. Students were shown a short film of 5 to 6 minutes at the Parle factory and understood the details of making all such products.

From the management\'s perspective, indeed it was a most influential and insightful visit and students had a great fun learning experience.
