MET Institute of PGDM, in association with Dr. Jyotsna Munshi, Deputy Director of Corporate Relations, hosted a session on ‘Overview of Government Securities Market & RBI ‘Retail Direct Scheme’ with Ms. Seema Ganapathy, Senior Manager at The Clearing Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) on 15th December, 2023.
Students actively engaged into the distinctions between transactions in Wholesale Market versus Retail Market, gaining a nuanced understanding of the financial landscape. The spotlight then turned to CCIL, unraveling the role of the Clearing Corporation of India Ltd in financial transactions.
A deep dive into Government Security Instruments followed, covering Treasury Bills, Cash Management Bills, Fixed Coupon Bonds, Floating Rate Bonds, Inflation Index Bonds, Sovereign Gold Bonds, and STRIPS. The session illuminated the Government Securities Market, shedding light on holding patterns and facilitating comparisons. Attendees explored the differences between Fixed Deposits (FD) and Government Securities (GSEC), enhancing their comprehension of investment choices.
The session also introduced the RBI Retail Direct Scheme, a groundbreaking initiative enabling direct investment in government securities for retail investors. This scheme not only broadens investment opportunities but also provides a direct pathway for retail participants to engage in the Primary Market.
